The Greater Sitka Arts Council was founded in 1973, with a modern revival in 2008. It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
A Look Back… Directors of the Council
Sarah Lawrie (2014-2016)
A self-taught artist, Lawrie went on to study at The Learning Connexion in New Zealand, before earning a Master in Fine Arts from The Dunedin School of Art. Her work can be found in both public and private collections. After serving the Council as program developer for some time, Lawrie took over as executive director in 2014 with the intent of promoting fine arts in her hometown of Sitka, Alaska.

After working with the Council in the capacity of coordinator, Budd was signed on as director in July 2010. Throughout his service, Budd’s focuses included strengthening community theatre, arts and cultural activities for youth and adults and regionalizing popular Alaskan productions like the Arti-Gras Festival and Wearable Art Show.
