The Greater Sitka Arts Council was founded in 1973, with a modern revival in 2008. It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The Council operates within the island community of Sitka, Alaska. Its popular annual programming includes events like the Wearable Art Show, Wait-Wait Don’t Tell Me and the Sitka Artisans Market, along with rotating artist exhibits at Sitka Community Hospital and City Hall.
The Council serves as sponsor to community arts groups including the Monthly Grind, Sitka Community Theater and Sitka Folk. In partnership with treasured sponsors, the Council is also pleased to offer grant opportunities to local, independent artists.
Thanks to the Rasmuson Foundation, GSAC now owns and operates a complete audio and light system (available for rent; click here for more information).
